How often should you get a massage?

How often you should get a massage really depends on what you’re hoping to get out of it. If you deal with tight muscles or discomfort that keeps coming back, having regular sessions may be more helpful than waiting until things start bothering you again.

For some people, that might mean coming in weekly or every couple of weeks, while others find that once a month works well for them. There’s no set schedule that suits everyone, so it’s worth seeing how you feel after your first few sessions and finding a routine that works for you.

Is once a month a sensible starting point?

Once a month can be a practical starting point if you’re looking to make massage part of your usual routine. Rather than waiting until tension becomes particularly uncomfortable, it gives you a regular opportunity to ease tight muscles, relax and give areas that tend to bother you some attention.

Monthly appointments can also be easier to fit around work, family and other commitments, making it more realistic to keep up with them over time. It’s a manageable way to look after yourself without adding too much to an already busy schedule.

What is the benefit of booking regularly?

Regular massage gives you the opportunity to address muscular tension before it becomes particularly uncomfortable, rather than waiting until you’re struggling with the same tight spots again. If your work, training or daily routine puts repeated strain on certain areas, having consistent appointments may help you manage that discomfort and feel more comfortable in your everyday movements.

Another benefit is that each session can build on the last. Mo can see how you’ve responded to previous treatments, spend more time on areas that need attention and adjust the approach as your needs change. This makes regular massage a more personalised experience, with each appointment shaped around what works best for you.

What if you train regularly?

If you train regularly, massage can help ease post-exercise muscle soreness, reduce feelings of stiffness and make everyday movement feel more comfortable between workouts. Whether you’re lifting weights, running or playing football, it can be a useful addition to your recovery routine.

During periods of heavier training, you may find it helpful to book more consistently. Mo can focus on areas taking the most strain, such as tight calves after running or tired legs after football, while adapting the treatment around your upcoming training or competitions.

What about desk work or everyday tension?

Spending long hours at a desk, driving or doing repetitive tasks can leave your neck, shoulders and lower back feeling stiff or uncomfortable. Massage may help ease tightness around your shoulders, relieve muscular aches and make everyday movements like turning your head or reaching overhead feel more comfortable.

If you regularly finish work with a stiff neck, heavy shoulders or an aching back, having massage more consistently may help you manage those symptoms. Mo can focus on the muscles most affected by your daily routine, adapting each session to where you need the most relief.

Can you book regularly just to relax?

Of course. You don’t have to wait until something feels wrong to book a massage. If you enjoy having an hour away from your phone and your usual responsibilities, a regular relaxation massage can simply be time you choose to protect.

Equally, an occasional session is completely valid. You don’t need a treatment plan to enjoy a massage.

How do you decide when to come back?

You don’t need to work out when to book your next massage on your own. Mo will be happy to talk through what you’d like to achieve and suggest a suitable time to come back, based on your individual needs and how you’ve found the session.

Sometimes it may be worth having a few appointments closer together, particularly if you’re dealing with ongoing discomfort. Other times, leaving a longer gap might make more sense. Whatever the recommendation, you’ll always have a clear reason for it, so you can feel confident you’re booking what’s right for you.

Book at a pace that suits you

If you’re thinking about making massage a regular part of your routine, you’re welcome to start with a single appointment and see how you get on. There’s no need to decide how often you’ll come back before you’ve had your first session.

Mo offers 60-minute massages for £50 and 90-minute sessions for £75 at Soma Wellbeing Centre in the Norwich Lanes, just off Pottergate.

Questions people ask

Do I need a massage every month?

No. Monthly appointments are one option, not a requirement. Choose a gap that suits your preferences, time and budget.

Is an occasional massage still worth booking?

Yes. You can book a single session without planning another. Tell Mo what you’d like from the time and take it from there.

Should I book 60 or 90 minutes?

Choose 60 minutes if you’d like a shorter appointment, or 90 minutes if you prefer more time. If you’re unsure which would suit what you have in mind, ask Mo before booking.

Do I have to book my next session before I leave?

No. You’re welcome to arrange another visit, but you can also decide later and book online when you’re ready.
